MCP connections

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, or Microsoft 365 Copilot to your FamilyOFX organisation, approve access, and manage AI connectors.

MCP connections

FamilyOFX exposes a remote MCP server so compatible AI applications (Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and other MCP clients) can read your live portfolio and workspace data. Create and update actions from an external client are queued as approvals in AI Agents — the same action cards you use in chat — so nothing mutates until you accept them in FamilyOFX.

Manage connectors under Settings → Integrations → AI connectors (/settings/integrations).

Turn the connector on or off for the organisation under Settings → Setup → Manage Features → AI connectors. This is available for single-family offices and multi-family offices. When it is off, new connections are refused and existing clients cannot call tools until you turn it back on.

Connect Claude or ChatGPT

  1. Open Settings → Integrations → AI connectors.
  2. Copy the MCP server URL (https://familyofx.com/api/mcp).
  3. In Claude or ChatGPT, add a custom MCP connector (or install the FamilyOFX connector from the store when available) and paste that URL.
  4. Start the connection from the external application. FamilyOFX opens the consent flow when OAuth is required.

Each connection is tied to one organisation. To give a client access to a different office, revoke the connection and connect again while signed into the other org context.

Connect Microsoft 365 Copilot

  1. An admin enables the FamilyOFX app for the tenant.
  2. The first time someone uses a FamilyOFX tool, Copilot asks them to sign in to FamilyOFX and choose the organisation.
  3. To switch organisation, revoke the connection under Settings → Integrations → AI connectors and connect again.

Approve access

  1. Sign in to FamilyOFX if prompted. You return to the consent page automatically.
  2. Check the requesting client name and requested permissions.
  3. Select the organisation the application may access.
  4. Choose Allow to return to the application and finish setup.

Choose Deny if you do not recognise the application or do not want to grant access. Never approve an unexpected consent request.

Approving the same application again replaces its previous active organisation connection for your account.

Reads and writes

TypeBehaviour
Read toolsPortfolio search, cash flow plan lookup, documents, CRM, calendar, tasks, product docs, and similar lookups run live against the connected organisation.
Write toolsTasks, contacts, deals, calendar events, cash flow plan and forecast-row updates, and batch import requests create pending approvals in FamilyOFX. They do not execute until you approve them.

Open AI Agents to review pending items. Settings → Integrations → AI connectors shows a count and a link when MCP tool calls are waiting for approval.

External clients cannot use org auto-approve on your behalf — mutating MCP calls always wait for an explicit accept in FamilyOFX.

Batch import from an external client

The batch import tool applies structured data from a document that already exists in your organisation. MCP does not upload files from Claude or ChatGPT in v1.

Operator steps

  1. In FamilyOFX, upload the statement or spreadsheet first — AI Agents (attach in chat), Workspace → Documents, or your shared inbox.
  2. Ask the external assistant to run a batch import and name the document (or use search tools to confirm it is in the org).
  3. When FamilyOFX creates an approval card, open AI Agents, review the proposed import, and Approve or reject it.

Prepare legal entities under Settings → Setup before large imports so lines attach to the right books.

Revoke a connection

  1. Switch to the organisation whose access you want to remove.
  2. Open Settings → Integrations → AI connectors.
  3. In Connected clients, find the client and user, then choose Revoke.
  4. Confirm. That client immediately loses access to this organisation.

Revoking does not delete data. Connect and approve again from the external application if you want to restore access later.
